Only dead things drift

“If a republic is to live up to its ideas and  be what it could be, then it had better look long and hard at what it is in danger of becoming and devote conscious effort to controlling its own destiny, rather than continuing to drift along on the tides of economic materialism.”  – Donald Davidson, quoted in George Grant’s Buchanan: Caught in the Crossfire.

  1. Blake says:

Great sentiment. However, how can effort be devoted to controlling its destiny if the desired end result can’t be agreed upon?

  2. I agree; our problem is that the ideas of what we could become were mostly agreed on (prior to the 1860s) has been fractured. Now it is the responsibility of Christians to secede, not from the world, but from the ideology that’s forced upon us by the world. At the least we need to look at what’s going on and critique it from God’s Word rather than shrug and say, “That’s just the way things are,” while mindlessly following.
